A banquet in KATEGNA will let you experience the Ethiopian way of life, where dining is characterized by sharing food from a common plate, signifying the bonds of loyalty, family, love and friendship. The dishes are prepared with a variety of unique spices, which lend an unforgettable outstanding aspect to it's out of the ordinary cuisine.
All of our foods are prepared with fresh spices blended daily and our sauces are prepared as ordered. The friendly staff and warm decor makes KATEGNA the perfect place to relax with family and friends. While we offer many traditional Ethiopian meat dishes, we are sensitive to the needs of our vegan customers. Traditionally we prepare many authentic Ethiopian dishes that are vegan, without the use of any animal products.
A great place to try Ethiopian food, we serve a range of entrées that are good quality and reasonably priced. We also have an ongoing coffee ceremony complete with traditional methods of preparation and incense.
Kategna is the type of restaurant where you can expect delicious food from the moment you walk in the door. The aroma of roasting coffee beans hits you like a wave of perfume, and then you get that all familiar scent of berbere, the Ethiopian spice blend mixture that pours out of every Ethiopian kitchen in the world – it’s beautiful!
The service at Kategna is fast and the presentation is beautiful. If ordering the yetsom beyeynetu, expect a huge combination platter of injeratopped with a variety of vegetarian stews, sauces, and sides. One of the most satisfying aspects of any Ethiopian traditional meal is ripping off the pieces of spongy injera with your hands, and scooping up all the sauces and meats the plate has to offer. Kategna has a lively energy, and should not be missed. If coming for lunch, make sure to visit either before 12:30 or after 13:45, or be prepared to wait!
I'm quite familiar with Ethiopian food and eat it pretty often, but Kategna restaurant showed me how amazing Ethiopian food can really be with some creativity. We ordered injera with shiro wot and also a mix of spinach and tofu. We also got injera with several small dishes of differently-flavored adas and traditional salads. We also got coffee - it is very very strong, but the flavor is amazing. The service was extremely friendly - Do yourself a favor and go to this place
The venue is clean, service is swift, and the food is delicious. We had a fasting, sharing plate which is basically lots of food placed on the local bread, injera, alongside additional rolls of the bread for you to use while eating. The food is served without any knives and forks which took a little getting used to and all three of us shared from one big plate. This is the perfect introduction to Ethiopian food and flavours on arriving to Addis, before venturing to other places
